introduction_

Demos are a unique combination of software design with 3d animation that requires creative thinking and problem solving, with the aim to create an interesting presentation that can run on relatively slow machines, and to be stored in a small space. Demos came from the need to have a small file for a long video, but now this need for a small file size presents an interesting challenge.

When thinking about what to create for my demo, I thought about what I enjoy, and how I spend my time. It didn’t take me long to come to Digg as my data source, given the amount of information and data holds, and also considering that it is constantly updating, my demo would never be the same twice.

My aim was to create a demo that is an abstract representation of Digg, using the number of Diggs of a story, the comments it has received, and the text surrounding it like the title and description to create a compelling demo. Although there is a lot of text in my demo, my aim is not for the user to necessarily read the text, but for the text to create interesting effects. Although I do not discourage the reading of the text, that is not my aim.
