This book was originally intended to be published conventionally, that is, on paper and available through bookshops. However, publishers were reluctant to take the financial risks on what they perceived as a limited market, in spite of a level of subsidy. After much deliberation, it was decided to make it available on the World Wide Web.

Even though it is related to Australian, and particularly New South Wales practice, much of its content is applicable internationally. As far as we know, this may be the first construction book on the Web.

It is freely available, and we urge its downloading, printing and circulating to make it as useful to as many as possible. We welcome comments to:
