The conclusion to the Great Federation Civil War brought peace and prosperity for a ruined nation. However the truth was, the devestation of a nuclear winter was simply too immense for any significant economical recovery to occur smoothly.
Despite the best assistance offered by the Galactic Council, the Federations economy stagnanted and entered into depression, dragging down the entire Sirius Arm into chaos. The deep hatred between the Federation and the Orion Imperium destroyed what little chance the recovery operation had of succeeding.
With the Galazy in turmoil for the third time in a hundred years, the failure of the galactic council again raised tension within the numerous Empires, republics and hegemons of the Galaxy. Rumours of discontent were disturbing pills to swallow for the upper ecleon of the Federation. They would not survive if war breaks out yet again.
In desperation, the Federation's secret Black Ops group hatched a bold plan.
The Galaxy has long heard a fascination with the ancient relics that dot the galazy. Many scientists firmly believe in the idea of a master parent race.
Taking advantage of the Galatic Councils generous offer of exculsive mining access across the galaxy (in an atempt to inflate the Federation Credit) the Federation salvaged various relics from an area known from as Restricted Space. Hoping for at least to find a fascinating relic proved fruitless, as they proved to be little more than metallic hulks soaked in radioactive waste.
However one Dr Salisburg in the Black Ops team saved the entire operation from failing when he created the devious operation known as project EDEN.
Project EDEN called for an illusionary discovery of an alien relic, attracting attention from the various powers of the Galaxy. This will also lead to a dual purpose, funding coming from excited scientist will be funnelled to extensive miltary research where the weapons created will be sold to warring states in the Galaxy. The money created will be used to fuel the Federation Economy.
Dr Salisburg was charged with the creation of the RELIC ship EDEN.
In the 7th month of 2297AD, the arkship was "discovered by Dr Salisburg's research team"
