The mission of the Virtual Technology Group (VTG) is to conduct high-quality interdisciplinary and cutting-edge research on all aspects of virtual technology applications in Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC); and to grow academic researchers both in numbers and in the technical proficiency and intellectual daring which will create and stimulate breakthroughs for the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industries.
As a Lecturer, Dr. Xiangyu Wang heads the Virtual Technology Group which is located in the Faculty of Architecture, Design & Planning at the University of Sydney. The Virtual Technology Group currently consists of 6 full-time Ph.D. students, 1 full-time MPhil student, and 3 visiting scholars. The group conducts a very wide range of research areas, especially interdisciplinary research across design, construction and computing areas. The main research areas of the group include Computer-Supported Cooperative Work/Design, Information Technology in Construction, Automation and Robotics in Construction, Virtual/Mixed/Augmented Reality, E-business and Web-based Collaboration, Mobile and E-learning, Human-Computer Interaction/Interaction Design, Human Factors, Constructability, and Sustainable Design/Green Construction.
The entire group has published over 110 refereed technical publications. The group is now/has been actively collaborating with over 15 international well-known research institutions across US, Europe, Taiwan, China, and Australia on interdisciplinary research projects, research consultation, and research paper writing. The research and member of the group is supported by various funding sources including National Science Foundation, Chartered Institute of Building Australasia, and the University of Sydney.
